Lewis Hamilton today drove his McLaren to his first F1 victory of the 2012 season with a win at the Montreal Circuit for the Canadian GP.  Hamilton became the seventh different winner in the first seven races of the season.

Lewis Hamilton started the race in second position on the grid behind Red Bulls Sebastian Vettel but managed to get in front of Vettel during the first pit stops.

Fernando Alonso managed one better and used his pitstop to pass both Hamilton and Vettel. Hamilton was flying at this point and it wasnt long before he passed Alonso on the straight.

Towards the end of the race McLaren made the decision to bring Hamilton in for a second pitstop expecting both Red Bull and Ferrari to follow suit but they didnt, this looked to be an error by McLaren but soon the lap times were great and Hamilton was gaining on the leaders.  Lap 61 and Hamilton was on Vettels tail and passed him on the next lap. Fernando Alonso was fading fast and soon Hamilton took the lead to complete his first win of the season.

Alonso's race pace was not looking good and it wasnt long before both Roman Grosjean and Sergio Perez had passed the Ferrari. Red Bull made a late decision to pit Vettel which paid off and he was able to take a fourth place finish in front of Fernando Alonso.

Jenson Button once again had a poor race finishing down in 16th position.
